What does "Remember My ID" mean?

When you return to the SCI web site and login as a student, your browser can
remember your student number, which is your login ID. Place a checkmark in the box and you won't have to
type your student number each time you come back. You will always have to
type your password. For your security and privacy, we may ask
you to re-enter the information if you've been away from our site for a long
time. You should always remember your student ID and password, or write them
down in a safe place, just in case.

What happens if I check the box?

If you are concerned that other people might gain access to your grades, or
even submit an examination in your name, then DO NOT check the "Remember My
ID" box. Be sure to close your browser when you leave your computer. This
will ensure that we ask for your password and student number again next time. If
you access the Stratford web site through a publicly shared computer such as in
a library, Internet café, or airport, then DO NOT check the box.

If your computer is used only by you and people you trust, then by all means,
check the box to make future logins easier and faster.

How does this work?

We remember your ID by placing a small file called a cookie on
your computer's hard disk. The cookie acts like a key to your personal records
and whenever you visit the SCI web site, we will check to see if your cookie is
present. This file is useable only by the SCI web site and has a built in expiry
date. (This is useful in case you sell your computer to someone else.) It is
because the cookie is stored on the local hard drive that you should not check
the box on shared computers.

What if I change my mind?

If you have previously checked the box and no longer want to be
"remembered", you simply uncheck the box the next time you visit
us.
